Animation: A Love Affair
Sure, many of us here at Blue Sky have boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands and wives, however, this Valentine's Day we wanted to ask them about a different kind of love affair...
How did Blue Sky animators first fall in love with animation? Read up on how it all went down!
“I first realized how much I loved animation in middle school. I'd gotten my first computer and would spend hours every day watching goofy Internet cartoons. This was around the early 2000's, a time I now think of as "vintage Internet". Anyone that's ever seen "XiaoXiao", "Charlie the Unicorn", or the "Awesome" series will know what I'm talking about. Eventually I decided I wanted to make my own goofy cartoons and now that's more or less what I do for a living.” – Eric Prah
“My animation love story goes back to when I was an 8 year old. My parents bought a Looney Tunes Special on VHS. It included "The Rabbit of Seville", "Rabbit Season, Duck Season" and my favorite, "One Froggy Evening". I remember watching those like a hundred times and wondering how it was done. I'm pretty sure it was then, watching that old VHS, that I fell in love with animation.” – Julen Santiago
“There were a couple things that kick started my love for animation. I have fond memories of my dad introducing my siblings and I to the world of animation in our living room. He taught us how to animate dolls, and action figures, using his camcorder. I really loved that! I also remember watching a VHS tape of Disney's Alice in Wonderland. I would rewind it and watch it over and over. It was simply magical. Fast forward to the present, I still feel like that same little kid. But now I get to be part of an amazing group of animators where we spend our days bringing to life the characters we loved as kids.” – Lauren Baker
